TikTok Offers Viewers Authority to Limit AI-Generated Videos in Personal Streams

TikTok is introducing a fresh option that permits them to lessen the volume of artificial intelligence-produced videos appearing in their feeds. This initiative comes as the company announced that it currently hosts in excess of 1 billion content made with AI.

Testing and Rollout

The update is being tested over the next few weeks before a global launch. This shift aligns with a rise in content created by AI, fueled by emerging AI video creators.

AI Content on Other Platforms

Studies have shown that almost one in 10 of the fastest-growing channels on another major platform exclusively feature content made by AI. A considerable share of this material is classified as “AI slop”, a phrase for substandard, bulk-generated content that is frequently absurd or surreal.

“We know from our community that a lot of users like content created using AI tools, including AI artwork to educational videos, and we want to give people the power to see more or less of that, according to their own choices,” stated a platform representative.

Volume and Proportions

The platform shared that there are now 1.3 billion videos on its app labeled as made with AI. In total, over 100 m videos are uploaded to the app daily, making AI-generated material a limited percentage of its overall inventory.

Customizing Your Feed

Members will be capable of limit or boost the amount of artificial media they view by opening the topic control feature in the application and picking “AI-generated content”. Other topics that can already be modified under the tool encompass politics, clothing, beauty, and choreography.

Platform Guidelines

The platform’s policies require content makers to tag lifelike AI-made content, and it prohibits harmful deepfakes of well-known individuals or emergencies. Any authentic-looking AI-generated clip that is without a tag can be taken down under its user guidelines.

Additionally, the app will henceforth attach an AI-generated label to content created with its proprietary AI systems, or detected by an industry-wide initiative for spotting AI-generated material. This measure is designed to deter users from trying to bypass the disclosure requirement.

AI Literacy Programs

The company is also launching a $2 million educational fund for experts and groups to create learning resources about using AI responsibly. This initiative will benefit charitable organizations dedicated to training coding and technology.

Platform Protection

The video-sharing app has defended its content review process, following controversy over intentions to lay off numerous content moderators in the UK. TikTok is set to cut 439 jobs in its user protection team in the UK capital, with trade unions and online safety experts voicing alarm that people are being substituted by AI moderation.

A senior executive stated that people-led review would remain essential, but artificial intelligence can shield workers by eliminating the most graphic content before it is viewed by staff. TikTok announced a significant reduction in disturbing and violent content handled by safety staff over the last 12 months due to reliance on its AI tools.

We believe it is crucial to balance staff and AI to keep the platform safe,” the official commented. “We’ll have humans as involved in the system, but we further consider it’s extremely critical to reduce exposure to dangerous material as rapidly, which is the area in which a significant AI assistance is proving valuable process content quickly.”
